FAQs[]
Q - Does it virtually rain or snow in Zwift? A - Rain showers do happen in the coastal parts of Watopia and in London. Snow flurries do happen in Watopia on the high mountains like the Epic KOM or Alpe Du Zwift. The rain or snow does not have any effect on your effort or rolling resistance. It is strictly aesthetic.
Q - Are there day/night cycles in Zwift? A - Yes, some worlds rotate thru a day to dusk-like cycle. Watopia, London, the Yumezi and Urukazi parts of Makuri Islands, Innsbruck and Yorkshire has day to dusk cycles. Dusk lasts about 12 minutes and daytime lasts about 20-25 mins. A total cycle takes about 30-40 minutes. The Neokyo part of Makuri Islands is always night time. The rest of the worlds are always daytime.
Q - Do you earn cycling Experience Points (XP) faster in metric or imperial units? A - There is currently only a very slight advantage (0.6%) when earning XP in metric units over imperial units for cycling. Prior to version 1.49, the metric advantage was much greater at 7.3%.
Tips[]
A group ride or event is at an inconvenient or too late time for me, how can I still participate in it? There is no method to 'timeshift' group rides or events. However, you can join the ride automatically at its scheduled time and complete it later at your convenience. This applies to group rides/events that are duration or timed based. Workout based group rides must be completed when scheduled and cannot be delayed. For example, you want to join a group ride that starts at 2:00am your time as it offers a virtual jersey you would like and that's the only time it's available. First, register to attend the event. Then, anytime prior to the event start, log into Zwift and place your avatar in-game at the beginning of any route. Your avatar will wait there as long as your device stays connected to Zwift. At 4 minutes and 20 seconds prior to the start of the group ride, you will automatically be placed in the starting pen for the group ride. If the ride is distance based, any number of hours later, you can come back to your avatar and it will still be sitting in the starting pen. You can then complete the distance required and be rewarded with the jersey. Please note that you may be quite lonely on the route as everyone else has completed it and left. If the ride is duration based, your avatar will be returned to it's original route location but you will still receive the jersey in your garage. This is because you were there for the start and were still there when the duration ended regardless of completing any distance on the group ride. The exception for this workaround is for workout based group rides. You must complete the workout with the group in order to receive the virtual reward.
Some routes are quite long or difficult for me to complete all in one session. Is there a way to split them into separate sessions and still receive route completion? Routes must be completed in one session to receive the route completion badge. However, a single session can last as long as you remain in-game and connected to Zwift. For example, you want to complete 100km route but can't do it in one single nonstop ride. So, start the route as you normally would and ride as much as you can in a single non-stop session (ie. 50km). Then stop for the day but leave yourself on the side of the road, in-game and connected to Zwift. The next day, jump on your trainer and continue riding the rest of the route until it is complete. You will receive the achievement of completing the route. The game will record two timing numbers: the actual amount of time pedaling (ride time) and the amount of time you were in game (elapsed time). So your ride time might be something like 3 hours but the elapsed time might be something like 24hrs.
