What Are RoboPacers?[]

RoboPacers (aka Pace Partners) are bots, not real people. They ride at a consistent pace on a particular route, and you can easily join them if you’re looking to ride with others. As of September 2022, RoboPacers have been released from 'Future Works' and have moved into full product service mode. RoboPacers currently ride 24/7 in the Watopia and Makuri Islands worlds. Each RoboPacer rotates through different routes each week in their respective worlds. The higher paced RoboPacer routes will have more climbs while the lower paced RoboPacers will be more flat. There are different RoboPacers in each of these two worlds. RoboPacers are easily distinguishable due to their Robotic look and beacon shining upwards. RoboPacers will now weigh 75kg and be 75cm tall and ride at their advertised pace. They will use dynamic pacing, increasing the pace on inclines by 10% and decrease the pace on declines by 20% to better reflect riders normal pace changes.

Uses For RoboPacers[]

Some common uses for RoboPacers are:

  • Warmups and Cooldowns: Getting ready for a race or tough group ride? Get your legs spinning with a pack of friends. It’s more fun than dropping into a map alone, and it helps get you into that group ride mode.
  • Group practice: Still learning how to stay in the draft and ride efficiently on Zwift? RoboPacer packs are the perfect place to practice. Move around in the group, noting how it gets harder or easier depending on if you’re off the front, tailgunning on the back, or sitting somewhere mid-pack.
  • Steady training or long distance: looking for a steady effort? You always know what the RoboPacers will be doing.
  • Intervals: Interval training with a RoboPacer group is more fun than doing it alone. Try riding off the front for X minutes, or dropping off the back then sprinting on.
  • Fitness Testing: Want to push yourself? Choose a RoboPacer that rides above your race pace, and see how long you can hang on. Then come back and do it again!
  • Get Drops Faster: RoboPacers have the benefit of increasing the amount of drops (Drops Multiplier) you receive the longer you ride with them.
  • Get Lots of Ride-Ons: RoboPacer groups tend to give lots of ride-ons in the group. Additionally, the RoboPacer itself will give out ride-ons to the group.

Joining A RoboPacer[]

Pace Partner Launch Screen
Pace Partner Selection Screen

To join a RoboPacers, select the Robopacer tile from the Home Screen UI. A separate screen will pop-up allowing you to select a RoboPacer from the list above. Once selected, you will enter the game next to the RoboPacer where ever it is currently riding. You will have a pedal assist for a few seconds to allow you to get up to speed but after that, you must match the pace of the RoboPacer to stay in the group.

Additionally, if you are just free riding in Watopia or Makuri Islands and a RoboPacer rides by, you can join in with the group and match the RoboPacer pace. You're screen will reflect that you are now riding with a RoboPacer. You can also do a u-turn to catch up with a RoboPacer riding the other direction.

Drops Multiplier[]

The Drops Multiplier was created to encourage riders to stay close to the RoboPacers. It provides a bit of a challenge to help us engage and learn how to manage our position in the virtual peloton – a useful skill for races and group rides. And of course, we all like more Drops, so we can fill our virtual garages with more bikes and wheels!

The big idea here is: stay close enough to the RoboPacer and your Drops Multiplier will increase. It takes 5 minutes to fill each stage, so after 5 minutes of riding close enough to a RoboPacer your multiplier will go from x1.0 to x1.2 (this means you’re earning Drops 20% faster than before.) 5 more minutes and it will go to x1.4, then x1.6, then x1.8, then x2.5. Prior to the October 2022 update, the multiplier would then reset back to x1.0. As of 2022-10-28, the multiplier is bugged and will not progress past x2.0.

If you get too far away from your Pace Partner, warning messages will come up, telling you to get closer. If you remain too far long enough, your Drops Multiplier game will be reset to x1.0.

HoloReplay[]

Currently, still in FutureWorks testing but available to users, the HoloReplay (aka ghost pacer) function creates a visual representation of your fastest pace within the past 90 days or your most recent segment completion during a free ride or pacer group ride. It is a mirror of a segment where you obtained your personal best, or your most recent segment time, and allows you the opportunity to compete against your previous self. You will have the option to choose between 4 different settings from the settings menu:

  • Personal Best: Any PR set during a freeride or Pacer Group ride from August 16th 2022 onward for a 90-day rolling period.
  • Most Recent: This will spawn the HoloReplay from the most recent completion of a segment. This is not limited to personal best times - it is literally the last time you completed this segment in freeride mode.
  • Both: This will allow the PR and most recent completion to spawn.
  • Off: This will not spawn the HoloReplay.

If you went faster in one part of the segment and slower in another, your HoloReplay will do the same. It will also follow your turns and changes of position on the road. If you’re using steering and make a few swerves, that will also appear in the game. Here's some more details on how HoloReplays work:

  • Your HoloReplay is only visible to you and no one else. The HoloReplay will show up in the Zwifters Nearby list but only you can see it.
  • Your PR must be set during a free ride or Pacer Group ride.
  • HoloReplays won’t use a PR or recent completion recorded in an event, Meetup, Club, or group ride.
  • You choose the segment and it can only be a single segment PR.
  • Your PR has to have taken place in the last 90 days (after Aug 16 2022).
  • You can also choose your most recent completion, even if it isn’t the fastest of the last 90 days.
