Zwift Pause Screen

Zwift Pause Screen

Once you've paired your devices, selected a course world and route, you will be dropped into the game with your avatar sitting/standing on the side of the road. Clicking your mouse anywhere on the background will bring up a menu button. Clicking the menu button will bring up the 'Paused' screen where you can access current information about your ride/run as well as workouts, badges, pair, garage and settings.

Select the settings icon to bring up the settings screen. The Settings screens to the left are from a PC and may be slightly different for other devices. Below is a description of the settings and what they do. There are two tabs of options: Preferences and Sound & Display.

  1. Preferred Language - Select your language of choice
  2. Trainer Difficulty - Initially, this is set to 50%. This is more accurately described as gradient scale or bias. This adjustment won’t change how far or fast you ride, but it will change how climbs feel. At 50%, climbing on a 10% grade will feel like climbing a 5% grade. Lowering your Trainer Difficulty decreases resistance changes on hills. You still have to put in the same amount of power to get up (and down) the hill, but you will “feel” the hill less. Another way to look at it: Trainer Difficulty determines how much shifting you will need to do. Where you might typically use ~7 of your gears when riding at the default 50% setting, lowering it to 25% would let you ride and only use ~4 gears, since the incline changes are less dramatic. Increasing your trainer difficulty, on the other hand, will force you to use more gears. So instead of 7, you may use 10 or 12, since the hills will feel steeper and you will need to shift more to maintain a healthy cadence. This is not a cheat but rather allows for gearing differences in various cycling set-ups. Here's a few links to videos to help illustrate this concept: Trainer Difficulty Explained, Trainer Difficulty is not Virtual Gearing.
  3. Power Display - Power display is how your power output is displayed in-game. You can set it to calculate your average power over 3 seconds or it can change instantly with each pedal stroke. This is display only not an average of your power. In workouts or races where you might need instant power readings switch to 'Instant'. Otherwise, the '3 Sec Average' will display power readings more smoothly.
  4. Leaderboards - Leaderboards show up on the left side of your Heads Up Display (HUD) screen. If you’re riding a segment with a leaderboard—it’ll show up and let you know how everyone is ranked for that segment. 'Auto' will show only when nearby a sprint or segment whereas as 'Always' will be on continuously.
  5. Measurements - Determines whether in-game measurements are shown in metric or imperial units.
  6. Screenshot Uploading - Allows you to adjust what images are uploaded in Zwift and to linked third-party platforms. Choose between Always, Only My Shots, or Never.
  7. Show Group-Chat - Shows or hides groups chat messages on screen
  8. Language Filter - This setting allows you to censor out profanity in chat and within the group chat. When this option is turned On, this feature will help censor out messages containing profanity.
  9. Workout Pain Effect - When you're working hard (e.g., high power output, high HR) the screen will simulate the sensation of riding through fatigue (ie slightly distorted or blurry). Toggle between On and Off to try this setting out. This only shows up during a workout.
  10. Route HoloReplay - Allows you to select if you would like to see a HoloReplay of your personal best, most recent, or both for an entire route. You can also select to turn the HoloReplay feature off.
  11. Segment HoloReplay - Allows you to select if you would like to see a HoloReplay of your personal best, most recent, or both for a timed segment. You can also select to turn the HoloReplay feature off.
  12. Title Music - Turns on/off the title music for the game
  13. Game Sound Volume - Allows you to adjust the volume for game sounds. Sometimes podcasts are broadcast for certain rides. This setting adjusts that volume as well.
  14. 3D World Volume - Adjust volume of sounds from the 3D world such as pedal clicks or bird sounds.
  15. Game Resolution - Adjust the resolution of the game on your screen. Options include: Low (576p), Medium (720p), High (1080p), Ultra (1440p), UHD (2160p). If an option isn't shown, your system is unable to display at that resolution. Your graphics card determines what resolutions your system is capable of displaying. If you're experiencing display issues, try lowering your resolution to see if this resolves the issue.
  16. Screen Mode - Determines whether screen is full screen or windowed
  17. Home Screen Scaling - Scale of the home screen -Extra Small, Small, Medium, Large

Click 'OK' to save your settings and return to the 'Paused' screen.
